Teachers and Students
Ban Luang School, Phrao, Chiang Mai
Ban Luang School are looking for English, Art and Music teachers to help improve their teaching and contribute to their school. Students here range from 5 to 15 years, and teaching would be spread across the levels (unless otherwise stated or you have a preference). Ban Luang school has a pre-school, primary, and secondary school, with 61 students totalling and 9 teachers. It is 35km from Phrao town and 60km from Chiang Mai. Located in a small village in Phrao, with a beautiful temple, this is ideal for anyone who is looking to gain experience in teaching, and experience true Thai culture and living.
Ban Luang are looking for 1 or more volunteers (2 is better) to stay for a minimum of 2 months, and a maximum that is up to you!
Volunteers will work Monday to Friday, and the amount of hours a day will depend on which lessons will be taught when. Whether you are teaching English across the school, Art or Music, you will always be kept busy with work allocated to you by the headteacher or your lead worker. You will be allocated a teacher to support you through your stay, who will have a basic level (if not better) standard of English.
Food and accommodation
Volunteers will be allocated money for food and accommodation. This will either directly go into your hands, or to your host. Ban Luang have accommodation on the school site; it is a wood-structured house with 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, a kitchen and living area. A bed with mosquito net is provided, as well as a cupboard for your clothes, and gas to cook with.
You will eat lunch at school with the teachers and/or students. Your breakfast and dinner will be up to you. The village has a market where you can buy fresh foods, and a restaurant. The teachers will show you around and tell you everything you need to know!
Volunteers must have a good level of English language, in order to teach the subject, and a basic level if teaching another subject. Thai language skills should be basic, and volunteers should possess the desire to learn alongside students and teachers.
If teaching a subject such as Art and Music, volunteers must have relevant qualifications in this subject. Please inform Move Lanna of your qualification and level, and we will consult with the school.
Volunteers should be creative, and work as part of a team. You must be able and willing to make a timetable and short curriculum for your teaching. Volunteers must dress politely and act politely around all members of staff.
It is important that volunteers have a level of independence as they will need to look after themselves in the evenings. This is not to say you will be alone, as most of the teachers and students live around the village.
