Always Reading Caravan Association (ARC)
ARC is a small association in Phrao helping children and adults find their love for reading, through a community library and a mobile library. The mobile library visits far out schools and locals around Phrao district who cannot come to the library due to their disability. These children and adults find it difficult to make regular trips to hospital and there is not always the facilities to help them. We are therefore looking for volunteers with physio-therapy experience, occupational therapy and other health care professionals.
ARC are looking for 2 or more volunteers to stay for a minimum of 1 month, with preferred stay of 2 months.
On a daily basis volunteers will visit different children and adults around Phrao who have disabilities. They will spend time with them to gain an understanding of their disability and look to see how they can help. Volunteers will return on a regular basis to the individuals to show different techniques and movements they can do to help themselves. This will be a Monday to Friday job, and hours will vary depending on where the visit will take place. Volunteers will be assisted by one of ARC's Thai staff members to help with translation, and so you can find your way!
Food and accommodation
Volunteers will be allocated a weekly allowance for food. This will be enough to cover 3 basic meals a day (anymore will have to be contributed by the volunteer). The variety of food in Phrao is plentiful and our Thai staff will talk you through what we have to offer, and you can try as your heart, and taste buds desire.
Accommodation is in a 5 bedroom shared house, for volunteers. The house is in the main town and is walking distance from 7/11 and Tesco. Currently the accommodation is occupied by two females from England, so you will not be on your own! With big, spacious rooms and a gorgeous view of the rice fields, we hope you will feel comfortable and relaxed.
Qualifications and experience in rehabilitation and physio-therapy is essential. Other related skills will be discussed by staff at Move Lanna. It is not essential for volunteers to speak Thai but having a basic understanding of the language is a big advantage, especially with medical terms and terms related to your field.
Volunteers should be able independent and be able to work on own initiative. Situations may be trial and error and so we will work closely with you to shape your experience in the way you desire. This volunteer role has a lot of scope for you to decide how you want to work. We are open to your suggestions and it is up to you on how you wish to work. Here's a brief insight into who you would be working with and the reaction you will get.
